Gotten from my internet twin, [livejournal.com profile] cigarettes214. Basically, the dealio with this meme is that you comment on this post to be tagged, and I will select 6 of your userpics, and then you explain why you have those userpics. That's what I did!

I made this. No, really, I totally did. The source image is here; it's from a 16th-century Milanese tailor's handbook. The text is from the scene in Hamlet where Hamlet is in the library, pretending to be insane, and Polonius asks him, "What do you read, my lord?" Hamlet, replies, "Words, words, words." Nyuck nyuck nyuck. I absolutely love that scene -- Act II, Scene II. Believe it or not, Mel Gibson and Ian Holm give a great performance of it in the 1990 movie version of the play. You ought to be able to catch the exchange in this video.

Sometimes you just need some Shakespeare and period dress, you know?

I made this one too. The line is from one of my favorite songs by the Irish singing group Anuna. The original version is in Gaelic, so it sounds like it is not in fact weird as heck. See this entry if you'd like to download it.

I also made this one. It's one of my favorite lines uttered by Stephen Maturin in the movie Master & Commander. Captain Jack Aubry is incredibly fond of horrible puns, which provokes Stephen to say this on more than one occasion.

Guys, I'm a dork. I hope everybody's comfortable with that, because it's not gonna change.

Those stupid dirty birds! Sometimes I find myself in need of an icon that is scornful in a humorous manner. This one covers it.

This is my mod icon for [livejournal.com profile] vintage_ladies, for when I need to lay down some official smack. My idea of vintage is a little bit earlier than the rest of the members, I'm afraid. Silly 1870s hat it was.

P.S. I made that one too.

Oh my god! Liz Lemon of 30 Rock. How I love thee. Both you and Tina Fey are magnificent. The show returns in April. Everybody should watch, and urge Liz and Jack to get together to form a union of infuriating perfectness. It's meant to be.

I totally <3 Mel Gibson's "Hamlet" and if that means I'm going to hell, so be it. That scene was probably the best scene in the entire movie, and I can't watch any other production of the play without wishing the actors could capture the same dynamic as Gibson and Holm had in that exchange.

Oh, and I wanna play. :)

It's positively my favorite version, from beginning to end. I cannot stand the bloated, uncut Kenneth Branagh version, which really suffers from not taking advantage of the lighter moments of the play, like this scene. Which is the very best part of the entire movie.

Dude, you've got a lot of icons. A whole lot of really cool icons. OK, here we go:

Consumer whore
The Elizabethan Lady
McDonalds
St. Merrick/Windy Meads
Secret
Bimbo Sandwich

Tag! You're it!

You have the most detailed icon notes I have ever seen.

Magpie -- Illustration
Jacob -- Lightning
Patrick Wolf -- X
James -- Is Seekritly Wayne Hussey
Aikea -- Mini Tristan
Andy - Scratches

(I think I'm suffering Andy withdrawal. It's really kind of strange. My initial list was just like four Andy icons and then I thought that was weird, so I went back and removed all but one.)

I may just babble in my icon spaces.

I'm in Andy-withdrawal as well. Hrmmm. Someone may be getting a visit soon.

That reminds me that I've been meaning to make an icon of Andy that says, "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to DIE." Is the DP icons community still active? I haven't looked at it in ages and ages. And do you remember off the top of your head if there are any shots of Andy in a tuxedo?

From: [identity profile] aikea-guinea.livejournal.com
Oh the community is still around, and I insist you post if you make such an icon.

Off the top of my head I can't recall him in a tuxedo (though of course in the last episode he was in a lovely vested outfit), but I would gladly spend some time with him in order to supply you with said images.

Oh, I will.

That would be too awesome. Do you think you could swing an eyepatch or some slick '60s fashion?

I can most certainly do the eye-patch, and will attempt the slick '60s fashion!

This is one picture from a series I did with me and Andy being 'Super Villains. There were more, but they were even insaner.

That's awesome!

I'm envisioning an entire series of Bond villain icons featuring Andy. I'm not sure how Octopussy's going to fit in there, though. :D

Facless: That's a comic book character called The Question. Her mask isn't just domino thing which only covers the eyes or a cowl, but rather layer of material which makes it seem like she doesn't have any facial features which she can breathe, see, and talk through (lol, comic book science). She's a kick-ass character and that icon really caught my eye. There's something about using a lesbian Hispanic woman without a face as an icon that just works for me, especially when posting on topics about identity, race, and other fun stuff.

Ned + Chuck: Two characters from the great show "Pushing Daisies." They're in love, but if they come into physical contact she will die. Hence the saran wrap kiss.

Ravenclaw: About half a year back, iconzicons made a series of "anti-house" icons making fun of the houses at Hogwarts. Ravenclaw is the smart kids' house which makes them nerds. I use that one for my particularly geeky posts.

Swordtar: That's a character from a webcomic called 8-Bit Theatre playing his sword like a guitar. He's really into swords.

Sucking: My self-effacing icon. That's from a comic book called Empowered featured a heroine whose superpowers only work if she's feeling confident. Unfortunately (for her), she has self-esteem issues and is prone to saying and thinking things like that. For the reader, it's pretty funny.

Dignity: That's from a a Mystery Science Theater 3000 short featuring a mincing androgynous pixie character advertising crappy junior high band instruments.
