Literally made my mouth water
How delicious does this sound? Cod fillet, wrapped in pancetta, and served with pan roasted carrots and shallots.
That would also be good with sweet potatoes or rutabagas, I think. Both have natural sweetness.
So. Damn. Hungry. Must think of something to do with cod fillets for dinner. Mom is frying everybody else's, but I don't eat deep-fried fish, so I'm in charge of my own. I usually just bake it in the oven with a dab of butter, pepper, and lemon juice, but I'm contemplating wrapping it in bacon and baking it with shallots and onions, and then sticking it under the broiler when it's done baking to crisp the bacon up a bit. Does that sound like a go to anybody else?
ETA: Must make some day. I will be the only one willing to eat it, but I bet it will be delicious. Ooh, spicy fish! Traditional Italian cooking!

Deep-fried fish on Fridays is a tradition in Wisconsin, thanks to all the Catholics that came here when the state was being settled. We eat it fairly often, but I don't really like it, so I have to figure out different ways to prepare fish. I do like cod and other white-fleshed fish, and tilapia is awesome. I hate tuna, though, go figure.
I think you have to find something in a food group you like and then branch out from there. What is it about seafood you don't like?

But to break it down... :: ponders ::
I hate shrimp. It doesn't taste good to me and the texture is gag-inducing. It's like extremely hard fat. Ugh.
My family never could afford crab or lobster so I've never tried them. Funny enough, I kinda like the fake crab, though.
I think I found scallops okay, but again, it falls into the "too expensive for my fam to get more than once a decade" (when there's other stuff to splurge on too, I guess) so it's been at least 10 years, probably more, since I've had them.
I think the fish I've found okay are the more "meaty" ones like tuna and salmon. I CANNOT FREAKING STAND flaky white fish. I know part of it is probably the texture but I can't stand a single thing about it. I hate Cod, Orange Roughy, Perch, etc etc.
Trust me, I'm Catholic and I hated Fridays. ;)

I don't have very many texture issues when it comes to food. Like, I can't think of one thing that I hate the texture of. Gristle? That's because you can't chew it.
Huh. Properly cooked shrimp isn't supposed to be like hard fat. It's supposed to be more like shellfish, like scallops or clams. I find both clams and oysters to be nauseatingly gross tasting.
Lobster and crab are both sweet and tender. I don't think that there's really anything I can compare them to. The fake crab is white fish (cod, scrod, halibut, etc.) sweetened and compressed into logs. It doesn't taste much like real crab.
Dammit. Now I want to go fishing and catch some crappies and bluegills. I don't have a license, though. Or a fishing pole.
