Literally made my mouth water

How delicious does this sound? Cod fillet, wrapped in pancetta, and served with pan roasted carrots and shallots.

That would also be good with sweet potatoes or rutabagas, I think. Both have natural sweetness.

So. Damn. Hungry. Must think of something to do with cod fillets for dinner. Mom is frying everybody else's, but I don't eat deep-fried fish, so I'm in charge of my own. I usually just bake it in the oven with a dab of butter, pepper, and lemon juice, but I'm contemplating wrapping it in bacon and baking it with shallots and onions, and then sticking it under the broiler when it's done baking to crisp the bacon up a bit. Does that sound like a go to anybody else?

ETA: Must make some day. I will be the only one willing to eat it, but I bet it will be delicious. Ooh, spicy fish! Traditional Italian cooking!

The cod sounds wonderful. A few months ago, we tried to make a halibut dish that sounded similar, but completely struck out when looking for halibut. No one had any. I can't remember that we ended up with; just some basic whitefish.

We used to eat halibut all the time because we could never find cod in the stores. That's strange, when you're having the opposite problem. I haven't had it in forever, either. I wonder if they've been overfished. Although, I do think of halibut as a winter fish, so maybe it's not the right season for abundant halibut.

Seafood is the main place my palate is woefully lacking. I cannot think of a single seafood thing I've ever craved. Most I actively dislike though can tolerate if that's what's served. I consider it improvement that I can find a few, "Okay, I guess" or even "not bad". But I still never find myself going, "hey, a nice (insert seafood/fish of your choice) sounds really awesome now".

I love shrimp, crab, lobster, etc., but I'm allergic so I can't eat it. I'm a horrible person and sneak a crab rangoon sometimes, but that makes my ears hurt and my face itch, so I haven't done it in at least 18 months. I did eat shrimp on the pizza last night for dinner, but it's crab that's the real problem.

Deep-fried fish on Fridays is a tradition in Wisconsin, thanks to all the Catholics that came here when the state was being settled. We eat it fairly often, but I don't really like it, so I have to figure out different ways to prepare fish. I do like cod and other white-fleshed fish, and tilapia is awesome. I hate tuna, though, go figure.

I think you have to find something in a food group you like and then branch out from there. What is it about seafood you don't like?

The fishy seafood taste? :) Seriously, I have a hard time even liking seaweed because of the sea taste.

But to break it down... :: ponders ::

I hate shrimp. It doesn't taste good to me and the texture is gag-inducing. It's like extremely hard fat. Ugh.

My family never could afford crab or lobster so I've never tried them. Funny enough, I kinda like the fake crab, though.

I think I found scallops okay, but again, it falls into the "too expensive for my fam to get more than once a decade" (when there's other stuff to splurge on too, I guess) so it's been at least 10 years, probably more, since I've had them.

I think the fish I've found okay are the more "meaty" ones like tuna and salmon. I CANNOT FREAKING STAND flaky white fish. I know part of it is probably the texture but I can't stand a single thing about it. I hate Cod, Orange Roughy, Perch, etc etc.

Trust me, I'm Catholic and I hated Fridays. ;)

We have opposite seafood tastes. I hate salmon, or as I like to call it, stinkfish. My aunt and uncle send us a gift basket every Christmas with a smoked salmon fillet in it, and the cat gets it. I practically gag while I'm scooping it into his food bowl.

I don't have very many texture issues when it comes to food. Like, I can't think of one thing that I hate the texture of. Gristle? That's because you can't chew it.

Huh. Properly cooked shrimp isn't supposed to be like hard fat. It's supposed to be more like shellfish, like scallops or clams. I find both clams and oysters to be nauseatingly gross tasting.

Lobster and crab are both sweet and tender. I don't think that there's really anything I can compare them to. The fake crab is white fish (cod, scrod, halibut, etc.) sweetened and compressed into logs. It doesn't taste much like real crab.

Dammit. Now I want to go fishing and catch some crappies and bluegills. I don't have a license, though. Or a fishing pole.
