I was browsing through the 1876 Peterson's Magazine that's on Google Books, because I enjoy that sort of thing. I ran across this, and it was so bizarre I had to share it.

That's right. It's advocating that you let your kids hide under a sofa or table, with a long, sharp pin, and stab at the legs and feet of the people who come to visit them. What the hell? In what time or place was it appropriate to stab your guests with a pin?
